Beijing, China.- Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, has affirmed in Beijing on Wednesday that Cuba and China will continue consolidating cooperation based on equality, respect and mutual benefit.

The Cuban Minister, after official talks with his host, Wang Yi, assured that Cuba praised the successes and has confidence in Chinese technology and companies, its second largest trading partner and important destination for exports of goods and services.

‘Cuba has opted for Chinese technology as an essential component of development (…) and will resolutely oppose any unilateral coercive measure, sanctions, trade or tariff war’, he said.

Rodriguez highlighted the high relevance given to the business sector of this country in the socio-economic updating process in Cuba, emphasizing support to expand ties with the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the other hand, he expressed his support for defending international law and multilateralism in the face of attempts to impose a single model at the global level.

Regarding bilateral ties, Rodriguez remarked that his visit in China showed that these are excellent and multifaceted, almost 60 years after they were established.

‘We are proud of this historic relationship and the close friendship between the Chinese and Cuban parties and governments which will continue to consolidate (…) the ongoing exchange of high-level visits in both directions has been essential to develop dialogue and mutual political exchange’, he stressed.

Rodriguez recalled that the conversations in Beijing between Presidents Miguel Diaz-Canel and Xi Jinping last November led to key agreements to ensure a comprehensive medium- and long-term projection of binational ties.

Cuba, he said, ‘is deeply grateful for the historic and traditional Chinese vote and defense against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.’

Rodriguez stressed Havana supports the One China principle and condemns any meddling in this sister nation.

‘We deeply appreciate and give our full support to the Belt and Road initiative, and in particular its expansion to Latin America and the Caribbean’, Cuban FM added.

During the meeting with Wang Yi, the two Ministers signed an agreement on the 2020-22 interchanges plan.

They also discussed issues of mutual interest, according to diplomatic sources from both countries.
