Vientiane, laos.- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and his counterpart from Laos, Bounnhang Vorachith, held official talks on Sunday at the beginning of the former”s official visit to this Asian nation.

Vorachith cordially welcomed Diaz-Canel at the entrance of the Presidential Palace and then, in front of their respective delegations, they reviewed the state of bilateral relations.

The visit by the Cuban statesman at the invitation of Vorachit, who is also the secretary general of the Laos People’s Revolutionary Party, is expected to conclude with the signing of several agreements on Sunday, including a deal on education.

Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations in 1974, Cuba has granted several hundred university scholarships to youths from Laos who have returned home as doctors, lawyers, engineers, architects, veterinarians and translators of the Spanish language, among other specialties.

Another agreement that is expected to be signed has to do with the banking sector.

During his only day in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the Cuban head of State also met with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and the speaker of the National Assembly, Pany Yathortou.

The Cuban president is on a tour that included a brief stopover in France and then official visits to Russia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, China and Vietnam.
