Havana, Cuba.- The tornado that affected five municipalities of this capital strengthened the unity of Cubans, asserted today president Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Speaking in a national TV program to inform the country about advances in recovery from the damages caused by the meteorological event, the president assured that the tragedy consolidated the collective course, the relations among national entities and the interaction between the different sectors of society.

Solidarity, consecration and the effort present in recovery, Diaz-Canel felt proud of beig part of a people that shares what it has and shows sensitivity and generosity.

About this, he highlighted that only with the people’s force we were able to advance so much in only 16 days from the day the tornado hit Havana municipalities like Regla, Guanabacoa and Diez de Octubre, where the event left several fatal victims, dozens of wounded and over 7,800 damages on homes.

The head of State used the opportunity of participating in the Round Table, TV program with a wide audience, to comment the complex context surrounding the recovery effort, marked by the aggressiveness of the United States.

Diaz-Canel mentioned the U.S. plans to intensify the blockade against Cuba and threaten Venezuela with an armed intervention, using the excuse of humanitarian aid.

He also denounced the new maneuver of the Organization of American States (OAS) -which he described as a show- at a time when the process of constitutional reform is to end on February 24 in the greater of the Antilles with the referendum to approve the new carta magna, approved by the National Assembly (parliament) last December.
