In Cuba those who have vulnerable homes are protected.

HAVANA, Cuba. –The population must be attentive to the information and be disciplined, prudent, responsible before Hurricane Irma, Mercedes Lopez Acea, first Secretary of the Party in Havana, said.

The leader attended the meeting of the Western Strategic Region, where Army Corps General Leopoldo Cintra Frias, Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), and Major General Ramon Pardo Guerra, head of the Civil Defense, explained the preventive measures.
Lopez Acea noted that the Weather Institute announced coastal floods in Havana, but rains are not discarded, perhaps intense, causing flooding in other areas.

The official highlighted the readiness with which measures were taken and in praised the cleaning of drains that the Institute of Hydraulic Resources performs.

Planning with Time

The Minister of FAR pointed out the need to provide information with enough time so that the territories can take preventive measures before the imminent passage of powerful Hurricane Irma.

Especially in the capital, which has many vulnerabilities, we must bear in mind that information arrive quickly, something that can solve many things, Cintra Frias said.

The head of the National Civil Defense staff indicated that for the west of the country the potential dangers are rains and intrusions of the sea, so everything that is at risk has to be foreseen.

We appreciate in the provinces and in the press a lot more sensitivity from the population than in previous times, the military assured with regard to the perception of risk before the passage of Hurricane Irma.
