Havana, Cuba.-The documents governing the process of updating the country”s socioeconomic model approved by the Cuban National Assembly during an Extraordinary Session confirm today the socialist and democratic nature of the Revolution, parliamentarian sources affirm.

Cuban President Raul Castro, in his closing address to the extraordinary meeting of the Cuban Parliament in this capital, said that these texts also reaffirm the leading role of the Communist Party of Cuba.

These are the texts Conceptualization of the Cuban Economic and Social Model of Socialist Development and the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution for the period 2016-2021.

All de proposals and plans included in those texts went through an extensive process of popular debate in which participated more than one million 600 thousand people.

Indeed, the deputies meeting in the Extraordinary Session considered that the popular debate in which all sectors of the population participated is an expression of sovereignty and democracy.

In the work of the commissions initiated last May 31, the legislators analyzed these documents and reflected on the Bases of the Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030: Vision of the Nation, Axes and Strategic Sectors.

The debate of the legislators addressed topics from the economic policy of the country, to the recognition of the quality of the education system and the vital role of this sector in the country’s development.

The VIII legislature of the National Assembly, made up of 612 deputies, of whom 284 are grassroots delegates and 299 women, began on February 24, 2013 and has ten permanent committees of work.
