Saint Iphigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba.

HAVANA, Cuba. –Army General Raul Castro Ruz deposited this Monday some flowers before the graves of national hero Jose Marti and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, in Santa Iphigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, accompanied by the first Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party, Lazaro Exposito Canto.

On the morning of August 13 Raul visited Playa Las Coloradas the monument marking the place where the expeditionary of Granma Yacht landed on December 2, 1956.

The visit took place just 60 years, 8 months and 11 days after the date marking the birth of the Rebel Army that under Fidel´s command recovered from the setback of Alegria de Pio combat. This army with the support of humble peasants and of the July 26 Movement expanded the fight towards the east of the country and later to the central provinces and Pinar del Río, to defeat Batista´s army despite its superiority in men and weapons.

During the visit to Playa Las Coloradas Raul recalled those difficult moments in which it was revealed the unwavering faith of the Commander-in-Chief in the victory.
