HAVANA, Cuba. – Cuba ranks fifth in the field of air operations control in the Caribbean, Central and South America, only surpassed by large countries such as Argentina and Brazil.
In a tour by the National Air Navigation Company, the head of Operations of that entity, Ricardo Martinez explained that most of traffic in Central and South America headed to Florida and other major American airports must pass over Cuba.
He pointed out that most Latin American nations do not have the aircraft traffic Cuba has, and in the range of growth predicted by the International Civil Aviation Organization the island will experience an increase of three percent.
Martínez noted that the terminology of air corridors has become obsolete, now they talk about straight line routes and short distances conceived in the Regional Navigation Plan.
