MANILA, the Philippines.-The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has a new shipment of relief ready to be sent to affected areas in the Philippines, after the passage of Tropical Storm Tembin.
These supplies will support the government and other agencies in their efforts to alleviate children’s suffering, ensure their health and reduce risks, said UNICEF Philippines director Lotta Sylwander.
The official warned that the priority is to protect the children´s lives, as they are always among the most vulnerable population in any emergency and are more at risk in the absence of drinking water, food shortages, and epidemics.
UNICEF was also particularly concerned about displaced communities due to the conflict in Marawi, because the camps reported severe damage and many tents were destroyed by the storm.
