Washington, United States.- The Council of the U.S. city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, urged the Congress today to pass laws in order to repeal the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 55 years.

The suggestion is contained in a proclamation approved unanimously by the members of that entity, who also requested the end of the restrictions imposed on the U.S. citizens to travel freely to the Caribbean country.

Shared on the social network Twitter by Miguel Fraga, first Secretary of the Embassy of Havana in Washington D.C., the text calls on President Donald Trump to respect the sovereignty of the Cuban people and renew the productive and cooperative commitment with the island.

He also urges the President to allow again the normal functioning, with the required employees, in the diplomatic headquarters of both capitals.

At the beginning of last March, the U.S. Department of State announced that the reduction of personnel in its legation in Havana will be maintained indefinitely, despite calls from several groups to allow the return of diplomats.
