La Paz, Bolivia.- Bolivian President Evo Morales today recalled the declaration issued by the Cuban Parliament to support the campaign for his country”s access to the sea.

Morales wrote on his Twitter account that on December 27, 2003, the National Assembly ‘of the brother Cuban people’ approved that ‘the centenary struggle of the Bolivian people to recover their access to the sea has caused broad support by public opinion and the international community’.

Bolivia lost its access to the sea in the Pacific War in 1879, when Chile occupied 400 kilometers of coast and 120,000 square kilometers of mineral-rich territories.

In 2013, Bolivia filed a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to negotiate with Chile the country’s access to the Pacific Ocean in good faith.

Two years later, the ICJ declared itself competent to iron out the differences between the two countries.
