WASHINGTON, USA. – Republican Senator John Boozman called for the lifting of the ban preventing U.S. banks and private companies from providing credit for agricultural sales to Cuba.

The legislator for Arkansas, who participated yesterday in a panel held in Washington on the potentialities of agricultural trade with the island, wrote this Friday in his Twitter account that eliminating that restriction will be beneficial for both parts.

I will continue fighting to make it real, Boozman added, who at this Thursday’s event recalled that American farmers are in a difficult situation, when all prices of their merchandise are low.

The senator, who was accompanied on the panel by three other Red Party legislators, considered that something different should be done about the relationship with Cuba.

To Encourage Trade with the Island

During the meeting, held at the headquarters of McDermott Will and Emery, in the United States, members of Congress agreed to highlight the importance of greater agricultural trade between Cuba and the United States, and the need to reverse the failed policy from Washington to the island.

Legislators referred to the inadequate requirement that Cuba is forced to pay in advance and in cash for U.S. agricultural products.

In this regard, they remarked the need to allow private financing for granting credits, as reflected in its Bill of Agricultural Exports to Cuba, which currently has 64 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives.

The participants also referred specifically to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States to Cuba.
