STRASBOURG, France. – The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, called for dialogue between the Government of Spain and Catalan independence supporters, and rejected any mediation by the European Union to settle the political crisis in Spain.

We have asked the Catalans and the Spanish Government to resume the dialogue, Juncker said in the Parliament of Flanders, where he was asked about the European Union´s measures regarding the case of the autonomous community of Catalonia.

When questioned by his silence on the violation of rights in Spain, in the midst of the attempts to independence in Catalonia, the head of the European Commission argued that he himself has always advocated dialogue.

Juncker emphasized that for mediation it is needed an agreement between the two parties, and since it does not exist and the European Union was not invited to intervene, he rejected any possible inclusion in that matter.
