Havana, Cuba.-U.S. powerboat pilots, Nigel Hook and Jay Johnson, will try to set two world speed record on the Key West-Havana and Havana-Key West routes today.

According to the organizers of the Lucas Oil Ocean Cup event Key West to Cuba, the Lucas Oil SilverHook powerboat, piloted by Hook and Johnson, left Key West early today, and would arrive in the Havana harbor an hour later.

The welcoming activity to this powerboat is in an open area of the ancient Havana fortress of La Punta, according to Cuba’s Hemingway International Yacht Club.

This project has been dubbed by Hook ‘two by one’, as it aims setting two global records, both on the going and back travels.

This new attempt, as well as the recent ones using surfboards and kayaks by young Americans, carried out in June and July, respectively, highlights the bonds of friendship between the Cuban and American peoples.

The first speed record between both countries (Miami-Havana) was established in 1922, the second one (Miami-Havana) took place in 1958 and the most recent one between Key West and Havana was set on August 1, 2015, by German Roger Klüh on board of the ‘Apache Star’ boat, with time of one hour and 45 minutes.
