Havana, Cuba.- The National Civil Defense Staff called specialists in disaster risk management today to the 10th International Congress on the subject, which will be held here from July 2 to 6.

Under the slogan ‘Understanding the Risk of Disaster and Join Efforts to Reduce it in the Interest of Sustainable Development,’ the meeting will address issues such as the impact of climate change in these situations.

Actions of prevention, resilience, education and awareness to mitigate the effects of these catastrophic events are also included in the academic program.

Parallel to this, the 6th International Firefighters Conference will be held, focused among other topics on fire protection in facilities with a large influx of people, the petrochemical and electroenergy industry, as well as containership terminals.

The program highlights the topic of organization and ensuring of the response before the occurence of quakes and other events in collapsed structures.

The convoking for the event will close on March 15.

The Congress will be held at the Havana Convention Center (west of Havana) and is sponsored by organizations, funds and agencies of the United Nations, so as the Cuban Ministries of Public Health, Science, Technology and Environment, among others.
