Pretoria, South Africa.- Cuba’s cultural representatives held meetings Thursday with South African officials to discuss many aspects of expanding cooperation in this sector with record productions, academic assistance and other initiatives.

In meetings held in the Departments (ministries) of Art and Culture and Industry and Commerce, a Cuban delegation made up of officials from Artex, the Music Institute and Cuba’s Ministry of Culture listened receptively to proposals to advance joint work to achieve such exchanges.

They include the joint record productions of South African houses with the Cuban VisMusic.

Migdalia Torre, Artex’s Vice President, told Prensa Latina that one of the interesting issues for the hosts was the possible establishment in South Africa of a Casa Cuba to combine cultural goods and services harmonizing the entire image of the country.

In this space, she said, there would be live presentations of Cuban music, there would be a craft store, discography and literature and guayaberas would be sold, a typical article of this Caribbean nation appreciated in South Africa.

The Cuban representatives explained Cuba’s experience in academic services with professionals from Cuba who could help in various cultural expressions such as plastic arts and the teaching of various instruments, considering that many of the South African musicians are empirical and do not know how to read scores.

Yaniecia Garzon, a specialist at the Ministry of Culture, said the South African authorities have announced they will incorporate these possibilities of collaboration into the government agreement to be signed this year by the Ministers of these nations, whose relations reach 25 years in 2019.

Once these proposals and interests of the two sides are added to the text will determine the date and place of its signing.
