Havana, Cuba.- The Constitution we endorse is of its time, has a future and projection, affirmed in Havana Sunday the second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, after voting.

In statements to the press in electoral station number three in constituency 10, in the capital municipality of Playa, Machado Ventura pointed out that the new constitution’s content is going to last for a long time, as it contains several changes to benefit society as a whole.

Likewise, he affirmed that, in the new law of laws, replacing the one in force since 1976, it ratifies the socialist character of the Revolution, the individual guarantees are reinforced and extended, while from the economic point of view it is in line with the current model developed by the country.

The Cuban party leader also referred to the broad process of popular debate held from August 13 to November 15, with the participation of almost nine million people in 133,000 meetings in neighborhoods and work and study centers.

What is written there in that Constitution is really the thought, feeling and aspirations of the people,’ Machado Ventura said.

The new Cuban constitution was unanimously approved last December 22 by the National Assembly of People’s Power.

The document ratifies the socialist character of Cuba and the leading role of the Communist Party in its society, and reflects changes in the structure of the State, the expansion of individual rights and guarantees, the strengthening of popular power in the base (the municipalities) and the recognition of various forms of property, including the private one. Do you ratify the new Constitution of the Republic? is the question to the more than eight million Cubans with the right to vote that this Sunday are called to participate in the constitutional referendum.
