HAVANA, Cuba.-One of the main questions of the population on the recent measures for self-employment´s improvement is precisely how long it will take the granting of new licenses.

On the subject, Vice-Minister of Labor and Social Security Marta Elena Feito clarified in a TV interview that this will be determined by the duration of the process of approval of the legal norms endorsing these policies.

She recalled those authorized to exercise the different activities can practice them without any problem, and noted the process continues to grant authorizations to more than 1600 applications still pending.

It will not be a very long time, as it is a normal process of work for the approval of these regulations, Marta Elena Feito said.

Control, an Essential Link

Commenting on the five self-employment activities that are suspended, the Vice-Minister of Labor and Social Security said it is a measure of continuity.

Feito stressed that among the new measures there is the compaction of related activities, a step that makes possible the reduction of procedures by the people.

The official pointed out that they will reinforce the control on self-employment in the country, starting from the creation of a multidisciplinary team of the local governments that carry out a collective evaluation.

She said the recent measures do not constitute a setback and do consolidate self-employment, which more than half a million Cubans exert now.
