HAVANA, Cuba.- The Secretary of the National Electoral Commission, Maria Esther Bacallao, said his Monday that in the areas affected by the tornado in Havana, the conditions for voters to exercise their right to vote in the constitutional referendum of February 24 are guaranteed.

Bacallao pointed out to the press that as in the elections of provincial delegates and deputies, people who for justified reasons are unable to vote where they live physically, can do so in a special electoral college or any other.

The Secretary of the National Electoral Commission reported that, until this Monday, there are 25 348 polling stations, of which 195 are specials, established in terminals, student residences, hospitals and hotels.

Bacallao transmitted the support and solidarity of the electoral authorities with the victims of the tornado that struck several Havana municipalities.

“At the moment, we are working on training the polling stations´ authorities, who play an essential role on the day of the vote on February 24,” Maria Esther Bacallao added.

The Secretary of the National Electoral Commission noted that they prepare all the conditions for the dynamic test next February 10, with a view to voting abroad, and for Sunday 17, when the entire work system envisaged for the constitutional referendum will be checked in Cuba.

Bacallao remarked that more than 225,000 Cubans are involved in the process, a figure that includes members of the reception and computing of information groups, as well as supervisors and collaborators.
