HAVANA, Cuba. – More than 99 percent of Cuban customers have already electricity after Hurricane Irma, Lazaro Guerra Hernandez, technical director of the Electrical Union said to Cubadebate web site. The executive also anticipated that the restoration work is expected to be completed on 30 September throughout Cuba.

This result is achieved thanks to the support we have had from the mixed brigades, which together with the electric workers have worked tirelessly these days. We are talking about 764 people who have been present daily in each of the most affected territories, Guerra Hernandez explained.

The directive reiterated that the provinces that still have greater affectations are Villa Clara and Ciego de Ávila, whose coastal territories strongly suffered the cyclone’s onslaught.

Camajuani, Remedios and Encrucijada in Villa Clara are the municipalities with the greatest difficulties until now. One hundred and ninety one brigades work there to restore service as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Chambas, Bolivia and Ciro Redondo are the territories with the greatest damage in Ciego de Ávila province, he pointed out.

Despite breakdowns, managers of the Electrical Union affirm that on 30 September the operations of the electrical contingents in the affected provinces must be completed.

However, we must clarify that after repairs are completed there may be some service affectations that will be resolved with the brigades of each province. This situation can arise because of the inclemency of the winds can cause false contacts in conductors, Guerra Hernandez explained.
