Managua, Nicaragua.- The economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba must immediately cease, as it is a flagrant violation of the universal human rights, Nicaraguan analyst Adolfo Pastran said today.

In these times of modernity, technological revolution, a more integrated world, in which there is much talk of human rights, to maintain interventionist, retrograde and repressive policies, especially of an economic nature against Cuba is anachronistic and inconceivable,’ Pastran told Prensa Latina.

According to the journalist and economic analyst, the blockade directly harms the population, which faces the worsening of that policy as punishment for not aligning itself to the policies and lines of thought of a foreign power.

The Cuban people is heroic, stoic, admirable and extraordinary, said Pastran, commenting that the Caribbean nation has been capable of withstanding the blockade with integrity to uphold its principles of sovereignty and independence.

According to the most recent report, the blockade has caused losses to Cuba for more than $4 billion USD, between April 2017 and March 2018.

For almost six decades, the United States has imposed this system of unilateral sanctions against the island, which has generated the rejection of the international community.
