Havana, Cuba.- The Cuban Movement for Peace and Sovereignty of Peoples today expressed its ”strong repudiation” of the recent measures and actions by the United States against the Caribbean island.

In a statement the organization rejected the activation of Chapter III of the Helms-Burton Act and other decisions applied by Washington to restrict U.S. visits to Cuba and suffocate the Cuban economy.

The statement describes the pronouncement of lies and calumnies as the pretexts used for the new anti-Cuban escalation that ‘seeks to sanction Cuba for its alleged involvement in the political processes of Venezuela and Nicaragua.

It adds that Latin America and the Caribbean live at a juncture of open interference and interventionism, backed by the reactivation of the Monroe Doctrine.

In such a situation, the document underlines, the defense of the postulates contained in the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, signed by all the Heads of State and Government during the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States held in Havana in January 2014, becomes more valid.

Likewise, the Cuban Movement for Peace calls on organizations, movements and personalities to oppose the violations and aggressions against independence, sovereignty and international law committed by the United States against Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and other progressive processes in the region.
