Ottawa, Canada.- Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, concludes a visit to Canada on Thursday, marked by numerous meetings with authorities and businesspersons to boost bilateral ties.

Malmierca will hold a presentation on the potentialities to expand trade relations between Cuba and the province of Quebec on Thursday in the city of Montreal, the Cuban embassy reported.

As part of his stay in this nation, the visitor was received on Wednesday by the Speaker of the Canadian Senate, George J. Furey, with whom he agreed to expand economic and commercial ties between both countries, the Cuban ambassador to Canada, Josefina Vidal, said on her Facebook account.

After the meeting, the minister toured the headquarters of the Upper House, which will close its doors next January for capital reparation.

During the day, Malmierca also met with the Minister of International Trade Diversification, James Carr, and later with representatives of the Canadian Commerce Corporation.

On Tuesday, he spoke with the Ministers of Infrastructure, Francois-Philippe Champagne; of Intergovernmental Affairs, Dominic LeBlanc, and of International Development, Marie-Claude Bibeau.

The meeting with Champagne was ‘an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas on how Canada and Canadian companies can work more with Cuba in the infrastructure sector,’ Vidal said.

Malmierca was also received by Geoff Regan, Speaker of the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament, and by representatives of the Agency Export Development Canada.

Canada is the fourth largest global trading partner of Cuba, the second largest investor and first issuer of tourists to the island.
