United Nations, New York.- The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, called to create more awareness about the importance of early cancer prevention and detection.

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the High Representative of the United Nations remarked that fairness in diagnosis, treatment and care should be applied to all human beings, no matter where they live, their income or gender.

According to figures from the World Health Organization, 8, 8 million people around the world die of cancer every year, mostly in low-and middle-income countries, as many cases are diagnosed too late.

Since 2000, the World Cancer Day is celebrated every February 4 to create awareness about one of the diseases with the highest degree of mortality today.
