Historic stairway of the University of Havana.

HAVANA, Cuba. – Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, went up the historic stairway of the University of Havana, accompanied by students, professors and workers of this campus.

On the occasion of the beginning of the academic year at the high school campuses, Diaz-Canel cut off the ribbon that opened the Faculty of Accounting and Finance in the almost tricentennial university.

Ailed Borges, president of the University Student Federation (FEU) at the University of Havana, said in the opening of the academic year that as worthy heirs of our parents, we must know how to defend everything we have conquered.

Welcoming the students, Gustavo Cobreiro Suarez, rector of the University of Havana, said that thanks to the effort of the Revolution they can study in the center to be part of the Alma Mater.

Thank to Those Who Made Possible Mendive School

Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, attended the inauguration of the new school year and the inauguration of Rafael Maria de Mendive Elementary School, located in Old Havana.

Eusebio Leal Spengler, Historian of the city of Havana, thanked Fidel, Raul, and all those who made possible the opening of the new school period and the reconstruction of the center.

He pointed out that the students of this educational institution will follow Master Mendive´s footsteps, a disciple of heroes of the height of Jose Antonio Saco and other illustrious pedagogues.

On behalf of the students, Chanel Alejandra Santiesteban, from the new Rafael Maria de Mendive primary school, remarked the commitment to study, care and learn every day on the ideas of national Cuban hero Jose Marti.
