NEW YORK, the United States. – The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, considered absolutely necessary and urgent that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and USA sit at the table of dialogue to avoid more crises on the peninsula.

Guterres, who is in South Korea, commented: “We need to start a serious debate to prevent any kind of misunderstanding and worsening tensions that result in a dangerous and unpredictable situation.”

In his view, a negotiated solution with Democratic Korea is possible as long as there is no threat to its security, and he asserted that from his position he will devote all efforts to the dialogue between Pyongyang and Washington.

Guterres rejected the military option proposed by the United States and its Asian allies and reiterated the call for a political commitment in the international community to preserve peace.
