BERLIN, Germany. – The Christian Democrat Union, led by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, won this Sunday the general elections in Germany, which ensures a fourth period of government of the President, the data after closing the ballot box indicate.

Data released by public television show that Merkel’s group obtained more than 30 percent of votes, ensuring her triumph for a fourth term.

Its closest rival, the Social Democrat Party, only got 20 percent of votes, reasserting itself as the second political force.

The great news attracting attention is the first time an extreme right party after the Second World War, the Alternative for Germany that ranked third in reaching 13% of votes.
