HAVANA, Cuba.- The President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, headed this Monday a new work meeting to analyze the situation of the current sugar harvest.

During the detailed review, which also included First Vice-President Salvador Valdes Mesa, and Party and government leaders, they analyzed the month of May is decisive for the harvest, so directives and workers have to develop an even more intense work.

Regarding the main causes affecting the fulfillment of the plan, Julio Garcia Perez, president of the Azcuba Business Group, explained that rains in different territories and the continuous breaks in sugar mills have lengthened the execution of the harvest more beyond expected

When characterizing the complex scenario in each of the provinces, Garcia Perez commented that those most likely to exceed 90% of plan or achieving its fulfillment are Artemisa, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Villa Clara, Sancti Spiritus and Holguin.

On the other hand, the president of the Azcuba Business Group explained that current efforts are mainly aimed at achieving compliance with the agreed export figures, as well as satisfying the different demands of the internal economy including the standard family basket.

Referring on sowing the official said that more than 41000 hectares were furrowed and sow until April 30, which represents 57% of the spring plan. He emphasized that “in order to achieve continuity in sowing it is necessary to guarantee a greater rate of plowing in May”.

Garcia Perez added that at this time one of the main obstacle to advance more quickly is that the figures for this period were planned taking into account that the contest would be completed, which has not been able to materialize and it implies taking exceptional measures due sow and harvest are simultaneous.

The provinces of Villa Clara, Ciego de Ávila, Granma and Guantanamo have the greatest shortcomings in compliances.
