Havana, Cuba.- Economic and commercial relations between Cuba and Spain transcend by their impact and commitment to keep this relationship alive and dynamic despite the complexities of these moments, said the Chamber of Commerce of the island (CCC).

During the inauguration of the 22nd Session of the Cuba-Spain Business Committee, on June 14 and 15, the CCC’s President Orlando Hernandez thanked the authorities of both nations for the decision to make the appointment before the tense circumstances the country is facing.

The economic, financial and commercial siege imposed on the Caribbean country is currently exacerbated by the hostile policy of Trump’s administration, added to the effects of climate change, giant cyclones, droughts and floods that cost lives and enormous material resources, he stressed.

Hernandez stressed that Spain has the largest number of accredited branches in the island, and is the country with the greater presence in the Havana International Fair, Cuba’s most important commercial event.

He also added that the Iberian country is one of the main investors in the economy, where industry and tourism stand out, and in addition, it is the third largest trading partner of Cuba, after China and Venezuela, and the first in Europe.

For his part, the Spanish President of the Bilateral Committee Jaime Garcia-Legaz said that this edition is attended by a delegation nourished from the previous events.

Some delegations that come to Cuba for the first time and others that have previous experience of working on the island are among the attendees, he said.

Garcia-Legaz considered that the progress in the relations of the countries is due, among other factors, to the renegotiation of bilateral debt in the long and short term, the creation and start-up of the fund against value, and the establishment of financing instruments, dedicated only to finance projects in Cuba.
