Havana, Cuba.- Representatives from Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico and another dozen countries will participate in the X International Meeting of Information and Communication Researchers and Experts (ICOM 2019), organizers announced here.

The event, which will take place from December 2 to 6 in Havana’s International Conference Center, has as its central themes social change and the search for innovative agendas in communication for development.

Referring to the importance of this edition of ICOM, the dean of the Faculty of Communication of Havana, Hilda Saladrigas, said that the meeting will be an opportunity for the consolidation of this professional and academic field in Cuba and Latin America.

‘ICOM has been marking the growth and closer approach to the most relevant agendas in terms of academia and the efforts of those who work in the field of communications, both on our island and in the region,’ she said.

Over four days, prestigious academics will offer keynote lectures and workshops on contributions to electronic government, technological mediation in educational processes for development, and information and technology gaps from the political economy of communication and culture.

Among the guests invited are Spanish professor Manuel Castells; University of São Paulo professor Sueli Mara Soares Pinto; and pedagogue at the School of Archivistics, Library and Information Sciences of the University of British Columbia, Luciana Duranti.

An exhibition will also be organized alongside the theoretical event allowing institutions linked to communication to show their products and services.

ICOM 2019 is sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba, the Union of Journalists, the University of Havana and other entities related to Information Technology and Communications.
