International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

HAVANA, Cuba. – In order to celebrate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Cuba maintains its political will of zero tolerance against the international scourge.

The Secretary of the National Drug Commission, Antonio Ibarra Suarez, said the island fortifies a culture of rejection of the phenomenon, and in this sense, the ministries of Education and Public Health play decisive roles.

Ibarra Suarez added that more than 5000 kilograms of drugs, mostly marijuana and cocaine, were occupied last year, and of that figure about 95 percent constituted recalos.

Cuba is a signatory to international conventions on drug control, and fulfils its commitments as a State party to the three United Nations conventions integrating the legal framework of the global control regime of that scourge.
