Dr. Friedrich mentioned soil erosion among the main environmental problems.

HAVANA, Cuba. – Cuba as an island is almost entirely threatened by the danger of saline water intrusion, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO, said in this capital.

During the eighth Environmental Management Congress, which is held as part of the International Convention on Environment and Development, Dr. Theodor Friedrich added this happens when freshwater aquifers drop and give opportunity for the entrance of the sea.

The representative of FAO in Cuba underlined that the water levels in the world fall, hydric balance is negative, due to the high losses in runoff, and noted that the rice areas are problematic for the terrain´s sealing and high use of water.
