Informative Note Nr. 2 By the National Staff of the Civil Defense about Hurricane Irma

According to information from the Cuban National Forecasting Center, Irma continues to be an intense hurricane category five on the Saffir-Simpson scale, heading west-northwest, increasing travel speed to 26 kilometres per hour. It is expected that in the next 48 to 72 hours it will affect the eastern region of Cuba.

Taking into account that in the next 12 to 24 hours the hurricane will maintain similar course and travel speed, it was decided to establish the alert phase for the provinces of Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Holguin, Las Tunas, Camaguey, Ciego de Avila and Villa Clara this Wednesday since 10 a.m.. To maintain the informative phase for Sancti Spiritus, Cienfuegos and Matanzas. Havana and Mayabeque provinces remain attentive to the information from the Weather Institute.

The State bodies, economic entities and social institutions of the provinces in alert must comply with the measures envisaged in their respective disaster reduction plans and increase the hydrometeorological surveillance and evaluate the modelling of the possible affectations.

The population is oriented to stay informed about the evolution of this hurricane by the warnings on tropical cyclone issued by the Weather Institute and the orientations of the Civil Defense, and to comply with discipline the measures indicated by the local authorities.
