HAVANA, Cuba. – More than seven million Cubans exercised their right to vote in the elections of municipal delegates of the People’s Power, representing 85, 94 percent of the total summoned to the ballot box.

In providing preliminary data on the first round of Sunday’s elections, the president of the National Electoral Commission, Alina Balseiro reported that 91, 79 percent of ballots were valid, which evidenced a higher quality of voting regarding the 2015 process.

Balseiro recognized the results of Santiago de Cuba, Guantanamo, Las Tunas, Granma and Sancti Spiritus, while she highlighted the massive attendance of the people to the polls.

An atmosphere of tranquility, organization and discipline characterized the elections of this Sunday in Cuba, she emphasized.

A Successful Election Day

Eleven thousand four hundred and fifteen delegates were elected last Sunday in Cuba, the president of the National Electoral Commission announced when offering the press preliminary data on the elections.

In the Jose Marti Memorial in Havana, Alina Balseiro pointed out 1100 constituencies will go to second round on December 3, and she insisted all conditions of assurance must be created, as it happened this November 26.

Balseiro said that 35.47 per cent of the delegates elected in the first round are women, and 14.36 per cent young people.

The President of the National Electoral Commission recognized the support of the young students, the ministries of Communications, Education and Higher Education, essential to ensure the success of the election day.
