Guantanamo, Cuba. – Chinese company AVIC Intl Project Engineering Company, works in Baracoa in the technological installation and start-up of a factory for the processing of fiber and organic substrate coconut.
The new industry is part of a program for the integral development of the fruit, whose crops suffered considerable damage during the passage of Hurricane Matthew last October.
Experts from China working in the facility reported the factory can process between 150 and 250 kilograms of raw material per hour.
Maite Hu, Project manager of the Chinese company, explained that in her country coconut´s fiber is highly demanded in the manufacture of mattresses and thermal insulation panels in buildings. On the other hand, the organic substrate is used for the development of agricultural crops.
