Soraya Saenz de Santamaria charges against Catalonia’s independence.

MADRID, Spain. – The Spanish government rejected this Tuesday the offer of dialogue by the President of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, who left the proclamation of the independence of that region in suspense to facilitate a negotiation of the conflict.

Neither Mr. Puigdemont nor anyone can pretend, without reverting to legality and democracy, to impose mediation, as the dialogue between Democrats is made within the law, Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, vice-president of the Spanish Executive said.

In an appearance, Saenz de Santamaria responded to the proposal made this Tuesday by Puigdemont, who, after declaring the secession of Catalonia, asked to defer its effects to open negotiations.

The Executive Vice-President warned that the Government cannot accept the validity of the Catalan referendum law because it is suspended by the Constitutional Court.
