Violent repression unfolds in Chile.

SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Chile.- Clashes between demonstrators and policemen continue to mark protests in the capital and other cities of Chile for more than a month against the existing social model and in demand of a new Constitution.

In Concepcion, at the center of the country, police raided units at the University of Technology and launched tear gas to dissolve a student protest.

Chilean social and political organizations insist that the government’s calls for peace are a smokescreen behind which the intention to perpetuate the existing neocolonial system and the repression of police forces against peaceful protests are maintained.

Several media denounced the use of pellet shotguns by Carabineers one day after the head of that police corps announced the temporary suspension of the use of those weapons against protesters, of which 23 have died to date.
