BRAZILIA, Brazil.-The former president of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said goodbye this Tuesday to the people of Sergipe expressing his eternal gratitude for the affection received and assuring he would like to be a bearer of dreams and hopes.

Without hope people are not going anywhere, Lula said, and added he had learned from his mother not to complain about difficulties and always think that tomorrow would be better.

Honored by social movements, popular organizations and guilds, representatives of Afro-descendant and indigenous peoples, the former Brazilian President said he was leaving Sergipe with the most gratifying memory.

Lula was also honored by young people from the most humble classes who could study medicine, and he pointed out the only gratitude he expects of them is they return what they learned by serving the poorest people.
