Havana, Cuba.- Several researchers today highlighted the contribution of ECLAC to the integrating thinking of Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the panel dedicated to the development of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and its influence on economic and social thought, the respect for the ‘regional heterogeneity’ of the institution was highlighted.

According to Cuban professor Zoe Medina, ECLAC analyzes the reality from a progressive approach to ‘help the governments of the region to fight for equality’.

For Medina, education and quality employment are essential elements in the search for social protection.

The organization focuses on a strategy aimed at eliminating ‘the poverty trap’, based on combined measures that alleviate its more structural causes, she added.

Dr. Esther Maria Aguilera also said that ECLAC offers help for the development of countries and the confrontation to global political problems.

‘The equality of political, economic and social rights is a reference to achieve a progressive structural change in the construction of the concept of governance in Latin America,’ said the specialist.

Similarly, during the debate, the challenges posed by science, technology and innovation in the sustainable development agenda for 2030 were addressed.

Until this Friday, the 37th period of sessions of ECLAC will take place at the Havana Convention Center, with a program marked by the current challenges facing the region in the search for prosperous and sustainable development.
