GENEVA, Switzerland.- In intervening at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, the first Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Marcelino Medina, called for the safeguarding of future generations from the scourge of war and the ill-fated suffering it provokes.

We have a responsibility to preserve the future generations from the scourge of war, to save the planet and create conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations of international treaties can be maintained, Medina concluded.

The Cuban Vice Chancellor pointed out the great importance that the island grants to the promotion of multilateralism as a basic principle of negotiations about disarmament and non-proliferation.

At the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, Medina also expressed concern because the USA withdrew from the nuclear agreement with Iran and the short-and intermediate-range Missile Treaty signed with Russia.
