HAVANA, Cuba. – A sculptural ensemble, a replica of the first equestrian statue of Jose Marti, will be inaugurated in Havana next January 20, on the occasion of the 165th anniversary of his birth.

The piece arrived in Cuba from the United States last October and was located in March 13 Park, in Old Havana. It is an effigy equal to the original exhibited in Central Park in New York by sculptor Anna Hyatt.

The project was materialized thanks to the efforts of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, which persisted in the idea of joining Cubans and Americans to place a replica of the singular statue in the Cuban capital.

Dr. Eusebio Leal described the equestrian statue of Marti as colossal for its magnitude and artistic quality, and constitutes another example of the relations between the peoples of the United States and Cuba over time.
