BRAZILIA, Brazil.- The international campaign for Brazilian former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to be declared a Nobel Peace Prize in 2019, is in the process of formalization, the Brasil de Fato weekly reveals.

According to the source, Argentine Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel works to gather the necessary signatures and formalize the candidacy of the former workers’ leader, who is serving prison for alleged acts of corruption.

Esquivel and the other defenders consider Lula a tireless fighter against hunger and poverty, and his career transformed him into a world leader for human peace and dignity.

Their message to participants says: Make the indication, I already made mine, there is no time to lose in the fight against hunger. We must protect the most vulnerable and recognize those who give everything, including their freedom, to build peace.
