They redouble campaign for Lula as Nobel Peace Prize.

BRAZILIA, Brazil.- About 500,000 people joined with their signatures the campaign for Brazilian former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to be declared a Nobel Peace Prize this year.

Supporters of the former workers’ leader redouble the campaign for his Nobel nomination, which must be done until February 1st. Lula has been in prison since April in the Superintendence of the Federal Police of Curitiba, for alleged acts of corruption.

Many artists, activists and jurists allege it is a political prison, given the fragility of the evidence and the national context that removed Lula from the presidential elections in October, won by right-wing politician Jair Bolsonaro.

The Nobel Peace Prize is bestowed on those prominent personalities in the struggle for the maintenance of world peace and Lula da Silva has ample reason to be worthy of the distinction.
