Havana, Cuba.-In the framework of the State visit to Cuba by the President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba, meetings were held between businesspeople from the two countries.

The international relations director of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Celia Labora, told Prensa Latina that commercial rapprochement between the two countries is important, as we share a common history, we were colonized and belong to the Third World.

She explained that the Entrepreneurial Forum held in a hotel in Havana contributed to presenting business opportunities in the field of health care.

In that regard, Labora added that Gabonese businesspeople are interested in the possibility of hiring Cuban physicians, so contacts were coordinated with the Cuban company Servicios Médicos de Cuba.

For its part, the Cuban importer and exporter of raw materials and intermediate products, Maprinter, expressed interest in doing business with its Gabonese counterpart, because Cuba imports large amounts of timber and Gabon is one of its suppliers, she said.

Other interests include seafood between the Cuban company Caribex and Gabon, which is a major producer and exporter, so there are possibilities for joint collaboration, Labora added.

She explained that there is cooperation with that African country, mainly in the field of health care, but we are learning about each other now in terms of business.

We want to boost contacts for the benefit of the two countries, the Cuban official pointed out.

Regarding the business forum, Labora noted that there are common interests and Cuba presented how to do business, so that the Gabonese entrepreneurs can get in touch with Cuban companies.

At present, as independent and autonomous nations, we should strengthen ties and try to make our cooperation more fruitful, including solidarity and benefits for the two economies, she concluded.
