Havana, Cuba.-Cuba will celebrate the World Day of Protection of the Ozone Layer next Friday at the Jose Marti Memorial, it was known here today.
According with a report by The Technical Office of the Ozone Layer (OTOZ), Doctor in Sciences Nelson Espinosa will offer elements on the progress and the fulfilment of the Protocol of Montreal, which is designed to protect the ozone layer, reducing the production and consuming of substances that harm its structure.
Among the achievements reached in the island by the OTOZ is is the abolition of the bromide of methyl, specifically in crops protected as the tobacco, and of the chlorofluorocarbons in the domestic cool ing, thanks according to specialists, to them strategies drawn by them agencies State.
The ozone layer is located in the outer ring of the Earth between 15 and 50 km in the stratosphere and serves as a shield to the planet against solar emissions that harm the immune system, eye, skin, and in general the life of human beings.
The resident representative of the UN in Cuba, Mirta Kaulard program will also participate in the ceremony.
Cuba is signatory of the Convention of Vienna for the protection of the layer of ozone and of the Protocol of Montreal related with the Elimination of the production and the consumption of chemical and industrial harmful products.
