HAVANA, Cuba.- 114 years after his death, Maximo Gómez received the homage of the people of Cuba with a floral offering placed this Monday in the mausoleum erected in the Colon Cemetery, in Havana, where his remains rest.

The political and military ceremony was presided over by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Army General Raul Castro Ruz, and Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers.

In the tribute to the Mambi patriot of Dominican origin, City Historian Eusebio Leal made a synthesis for the most momentous moments in the history of Cuba where the General-in-Chief of the Liberation Army participated.

Leal referred to that iron will that always distinguished Gomez and described him as an eternal paradigm of service to the nation.
