VEGAS DE JIBACOA, Granma. – On its anniversary 60 it was remembered the meeting that Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz held in Vegas de Jibacoa with peasants of the Sierra Maestra on May 25, 1958.

The purpose of the meeting was to ask highlanders not to miss the coffee harvest, because they would be paid when the Revolution triumphed, and Fidel´s promise to the growers was fulfilled.

The people in Sierra Maestra feared for the beginning of the great offensive of tyranny against the Rebel Army, but the undefeated Commander, with his power of conviction and infinite faith in the victory, led the peasants to carry out the coffee harvest.

The tyranny´s offensive was defeated, the luminous triumph of January 1st came and so today Vegas de Jibacoa has a medical office, school, grocery store, electricity and telephones.
