Sancti Spiritus, Cuba.-The central ceremony for the Day of National Rebelliousness held in this city also served as a tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, who will turn 90 years old next August 13th.
The political ceremony at the Mayor General Serafín Sánchez Revolution Square presented images of the assault to the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes headquarters 63 years ago. President Raúl Castro attended the ceremony.
In an address, Deputy Secretary of the Cubas Communist Party (PCC) José Ramón Machado transmitted, on behalf of the Cuban people, warm congratulations to Fidel Castro and stressed the commitment to remain faithful to his ideals.
Machado recalled the address pronounced by Fidel Castro in this city 30 years ago, and stressed the relevance of most of the ideas voiced that time, such as saying that a nation that is capable of overcoming its own mistakes and fears nothing, yields to nothing, is and always will be an invincible people.
Meanwhile, José Ramón Monteagudo, first PCC secretary in the province, voiced the local pride for hosting the July 26th celebrations in the year of Fidelâ?Ös 90th birthday.
“To Fidel, we send our congratulations, love and never-ending loyalty. This is a day of joy and confidence in the ideas that we defend”, he said.
Social media also sent messages of commitment to the historical leader, and voiced willingness to continue the legacy of previous generations.
Santi Spiritus, located 355 km east of Havana, was chosen to host the ceremony because of its sustained increase in key economic-social indicators, including the growth of its production and compliance with the sugar-producing plan.
