Mayabeque, Cuba.-The village of Batabano in the province of Mayabeque recalls today the arrival by sea of the assailants to the Moncada barracks, after the exit of the so-called Presidio Modelo (Model Prison).

On the morning of May 16, 1955 the ex-inmates arrived on El Pinero ship. Tyrant Batista released them the day before through a general amnesty granted under the strong pressure of the Cuban people.

At that time, the people of Surgidero of Batabano and San Felipe met at the railway station where Fidel Castro and his companions were greeted with unconditional support for the just cause of the Cuban revolution.

This event is remembered today in a political-cultural gala in front of the railway stations of the two towns, where the people ratify the ideas of the historical leader who dedicated his life and work to the fate of Cubans.
