HAVANA, Cuba. – The Deputy Governor of Minnesota, Tina Smith, said this Thursday in this city that despite the change of policy towards Cuba of President Donald Trump, her state remains committed to the development of relations with the island.

Smith, the first American high-level officer to visit Cuba after the announcement of Washington’s new policy on June 16, reiterated she disagreed with the Republican president’s decision to restrict trade with Cuba.

The Deputy Governor of Minnesota noted that the objective of the bipartisan delegation was not to sign any particular agreement, but to give the first step of exchange and do mutually advantageous business.

This is my first visit to Cuba, and I return with a message of respect for the Cuban people, she added. Smith is in Cuba since last Monday.
