General elections in Cuba.

HAVANA, Cuba.- The electoral commissions at all levels work to guarantee a satisfactory result in the elections of March 11, when more than eight million of Cubans are summoned to the polls, to elect the deputies to the Parliament and the delegates to the Provincial Assemblies of People´s Power.

This was assured by the Secretary of the National Electoral Commission, Maria Esther Bacallao Martinez, who emphasized that the actions of training continue this month, as well as the exposure of the photos and biographies of the candidates.

She also said that to date 24 470 electoral colleges have been approved, of which 141 are special.

Bacallao explained that in this second stage, citizens who demonstrate inability to vote in their electoral college, for reasons of work or other justified, may do so in a special one or any other.

Total Transparency

The Secretary of the National Electoral Commission, Maria Esther Bacallao Martinez, said that the dynamic test will be on March 4, an exercise with which the means, mechanisms and electoral structures are put into practice to guarantee all the conditions and to avoid any setbacks the day of the vote.

The official added that on March 11 voters will receive two ballots, one green to elect the deputies to the Parliament, and another white for the delegates to the provincial assemblies.
In both cases, Bacallao pointed out, the elector may exercise the right to vote for one, several or all candidates, in contrast to the first stage of the election, when voting for only one, that´s to say, the delegate of the constituency.

The Secretary of the National Electoral Commission stressed that the scrutiny, both for the election of deputies and provincial delegates, is public, a sign of the transparency of the process.

ISLAND OF YOUTH, Cuba.- The presidents of the Popular Councils in the Island of Youth receive a training including the mastery of documents to perform their duties effectively during the two and a half- year terms of office.

Through lectures and workshops, the representatives of these governing bodies acquire knowledge, during this week, on Law 91 and issues such as social communication and the link with administrative entities based on their demarcations.

The seminar for presidents of the Popular Councils in the Island of Youth includes internal functioning, economic behavior of the municipality, planning and conceptualization of the Cuban economic and social model.

During the preparation days they emphasize on the attention to the electors´ opinions in the meetings to ender account or directly to the delegates.

Candidates together to People in Ciego de Avila

Those proposed by District 1 in the provincial capital arrived on Tuesday to the rural communities of Vicente, Third Front and Quesada, where they knew the achievements and difficulties when exchanging with workers and other electors.

Worker Yaritza Casanova Galan ratified the support of the Third Front neighbors to the vote and recognized the qualities of the candidates, their virtues, and merits.

Hilda Martinez Cuesta, president of the Provincial Commission of Candidacy in Ciego de Avila, considered as positive that the population knows and dialogue with its candidates, a transcendental step for the success of the general elections.
